At SpaMedica in Toronto, we’re confident enough to offer our Halifax FUE hair transplant patients a guarantee of success. SpaMedica has been performing robotic FUE procedures since 1997—longer than any other North American clinic, and we’ve placed over a million FUE grafts! No to mention, in addition to his notable contributions to FUE hair transplant knowledge worldwide, Dr. Mulholland has lectured, taught, and/or trained most of the automated FUE physicians in the US and Canada.
FUE, or follicular unit extraction, ensures genetically related hair families grow together by harvesting follicular units in singles, doubles, triples, and quadruples. The result? A more natural-looking hair pattern, of course. For the most effective method of harvest without a linear scar, robotic FUE harvest technologies Artas and NeoGraft are used to extract hair from the back of the scalp—your donor site.
Dr. Mulholland may request a few “before photos.” Be sure to include photos from a variety of angles: from the front with your hairline visible; left and right side profile shots; left and right side 45-degree angle shots; the top of your head; and the back of your head.
As is recommended with any cosmetic surgery, it’s wise to refrain from drinking alcohol for three days minimum prior to your FUE hair transplant. On the day of, the crown of your head may be shaven before surgery in order to allow the newly placed grafts and your genetic hair to grow out together all at once. In the case of more extensive sessions involving 1500+ grafts, the back and sides of your scalp will be shaved at this point as well.
The first phase of the FUE hair transplant involves the extraction from your donor site, which takes about 4 hours. Our “stick-and-place” technique is deployed in phase two: a small hypodermic needle creates a slit between your recipient hair. A graft is inserted each time the needle is removed. This is repeated until all grafts are placed, taking 2-4.5 hours. You can expect a full 8-10 hour day.
Immediately post-transplant, a dressing is placed over the tiny extraction holes. A new dressing is applied the next day, after which you can return home. If you’d like follow-ups via FaceTime, we’d be happy to schedule them. Most patients return to work after 7-12 days. It’s important to wait 12-14 months before judging the final results of your FUE hair restoration!
