What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler biostimulant that contains poly-L-lactic acid (a sugar polymer) that can stimulate collagen production in some cases.

Combination is The Key

SpaMedica has some of the most experienced physician and nurse injectors, as well as the widest selection of dermal fillers in Canada. At the time of your consultation, your consult coordinator will review the best combination of dermal fillers for you.

SpaMedica is Canada’s largest, oldest, and most respected private cosmetic laser center. Why are there so many dermal fillers available? The answer is simple: soft tissue filler results are often only achieved by the customized combination of two or more of the dermal fillers products that work in different, yet synergistic and summative ways. Fillers you can choose from at the SpaMedica clinic that can be combined include:

Revanesse

Juvederm

Restylane

Teosyal

● Bellafill (Artecoll)

 Radiesse

Who Is a Sculptra Candidate?

Sculptra is not “ideal” or “non-ideal” for anyone. People often seek a Sculptra treatment to restore fullness in the face and buttocks and reduce signs of aging. Going into the treatment, you should be a non-smoker with realistic expectations of your results.

If you are not a good candidate for Sculptra, you can still undergo a treatment at SpaMedica. Review SpaMedica’s additional non-surgical treatment options to find one that fits your unique needs.

Sculptra Risks

Some risks of Sculptra treatments include:

Irritation

Some patients experience irritation at the injection site. This can include redness or bruising. The irritation normally goes away within a few hours, but in some cases, it can last for days or weeks.

Bumps

Small bumps can very rarely form near the injection site. These bumps can be above or below the skin and might not form for several days following the injection. The bumps normally go away in several days.

Allergic Reaction

While rare, it is possible to have an allergic reaction to Sculptra. Discuss your allergy history with Dr. Chen during your consultation.

Skin Discoloration

In a very few patients, skin discoloration can develop immediately following the injections. This is due to bruising and goes away within days.

How Is a Sculptra Injection Performed by Dr. Amber Chen?

At SpaMedica, Dr. Amber Chen personally conducts or supervises all Sculptra injections. She has trained every individual authorized to administer these injections, ensuring the highest standards of care. Dr. Chen or a member of the SpaMedica non-surgical team carefully places the Sculptra into the soft tissue beneath the skin, precisely targeting the areas for rejuvenation. Each injection is prepared with a local anesthetic to ensure the comfort of our patients. Additionally, we offer laughing gas to further enhance the experience by minimizing any discomfort.

How to Prepare for Sculptra

Patients are pleased to learn that they don’t need to do much to prepare for Sculptra injections. Patients should:

  • Avoid taking blood-thinning medications.
  • Keep the face clean to avoid breakouts before the injections.
  • Arrange to get the injections at the end of the day or take the day off work.

What to Expect After Sculptra

Sculptra requires little downtime, with most people returning to work the following day. While slight bruising or swelling might occur, it usually goes away after 1 to 2 days. The results gradually appear over 4 to 6 months.

Sculptra Recovery and Timeline

Patients can return home immediately following Sculptra injections. Most people are ready to go back to work and resume normal activities the following day. However, depending on the dosage administered some patients may require 1 to 2 days to recover.

Patients should avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for the first 24 hours. For the first week, patients should massage the treatment area five times a day for five minutes at a time. They should also apply ice for the first week.

Best Procedures Paired with Sculptra

Botox injection, other dermal fillers and radiofrequency resurfacing (Morpheus8) and/or Fractional resurfacing and tightening (Forma) can work well in combination with Sculptra.
