How Much Does a Female Hair Transplant Cost?

The cost of your procedure will depend upon the number of FUE grafts required and whether or not a non-surgical program is used before your FUE hair restoration. In general, SpaMedica FUE hair restoration prices start at $5,000.

How Long Does it Take to Recover From a Female Hair Transplant?

The initial recovery of the FUE female hair transplant lasts just 2-3 days. During these first days, a soft dressing is used to cover the very tiny 0.9-1.2-millimetre extraction holes at the back of the scalp. This dressing goes around the front of the forehead and wraps to secure the bandage over the back.

How Long Does a Female Hair Transplant Take?

Due to meticulous and careful techniques, the female hair transplant procedure usually takes 4-8 hours, though it may take longer.

What is a Female Hair Transplant?

Female hair transplant has dramatically evolved in the past 20 years. Today, technology has led to more efficient methods of hair transplantation. Dr. Bell and his team have mastered the art of FUE hair restoration for women who are experiencing hair loss, thinning and balding.

By utilizing automated, robotic devices such as the NeoGraft and Artas systems, hair restoration is less invasive and offers better results compared to the old system skin grafting. These rotary punch systems are used to extract individual hair follicles one at a time. The size of these punches are 0.9mm-1.1mm in diameter, do not leave a visible linear scar and are almost painless. With FUE hair transplantation, there is NO LINEAR scar at the back of your scalp.

Who is a Female Hair Transplant Candidate?

Based on the health history and medical issues that cause hair loss, the SpaMedica hair restoration team assesses and selects the appropriate hair loss treatments based on individual needs, utilizing the methods that work best for the patient.

Good candidates are those without reversible metabolic, hormonal or medical causes for their thinning hair and who have realistic expectations about the kind of hair density that can be achieved.

Risks of Female Hair Transplant

Like all procedures, a female hair transplant comes with the risk of potential complications. Dr. Bell and his FUE hair transplant team have been performing female hair transplants for many years, and the risk of a significant complication is extremely low. Although Dr. Bell has not seen most of the risks listed below, these hair transplant risks have been reported:

Bleeding and Swelling
While a female hair transplant is relatively non-invasive (particularly when compared to traditional transplant techniques), patients may still incur some minor bleeding and swelling at the extraction site.

Infection
While infections represent an extremely rare complication, rest assured that any discomfort can be eliminated with preventative antibiotics.

Inflammation
After a female hair transplant, it is possible for patients to develop folliculitis, which refers to the inflammation of the hair follicles.

Numbness
It is possible for patients to experience a lack of sensation on the treated areas of the scalp.

Non-Surgical Female Hair Transplant Alternatives

The non-surgical treatment is often the best place to start, as many causes of female hair loss will respond to the non-surgical hair restoration program and may not need FUE transplantation at all. It is also common to undergo non-surgical treatment prior to the FUE procedure to minimize the risk of “shock hair” or Telogen Effluvium, which can occur as a result of any stressor, fever, illness or even FUE transplantation.

Our non-surgical hair rejuvenation program consists of the following medical trichology regimen:

NeoLTS

NeoLTS is a high fluence low-level light laser therapy on the scalp. By using a combination of red and green light directed at the scalp, the mitochondria of the hair bulbs are stimulated to grow and become resistant to hair loss.

Medicated Shampoo

A unique combination of nutrients and medical-grade biological stimulants are provided in the form of a medicated shampoo.

Morphogen Treatment

This is a topical serum of nutrients combined with 15% Minoxidil (a scalp vasodilator) that will improve blood supply and other essential elements to the weak hair bulbs.

Injectable Growth Factors and Bio-stimulants

Growth factors obtained from patients own blood, can be injected into the scalp and can bring back dormant hairs and minimize ongoing loss of anagen hair, or the onset of “shock hair”.

How is a Female Hair Transplant Performed by Dr. Tom Bell?

During the FUE harvest procedure, the individual follicular unit family grafts are removed one at a time with a tiny rotating punch. The FUE grafts are excellent to treat permanent hair loss for female patients, as the hair bulb and shaft anatomy are not altered and are taken as it is supposed to grow. It is then implanted in the same fashion for natural thick looking hair.

After administering the scalp anesthesia, a tiny needle is used to slit between existing hairs, allowing placement of the FUE hair grafts. The FUE, or follicular unit hair transplantation technique, is a successful way to bring back more density and thicker, more luxurious hair in a single session.

The robotic and automated methods, Artas and Neograft FUE, are very effective procedures for female pattern hair loss patients as there are no linear scars that result from the process.

How to Prepare for a Female Hair Transplant

To prepare for an FUE Hair Transplant, there are some specific instructions to follow:

●  Do not take anti-inflammatory medications, vitamin B or E at least one week before the procedure

●  Stop drinking alcohol and smoking one week before the transplant

●  Do not eat after midnight, the night before your surgery date

●  On the day of the surgery, give your hair a deep wash with shampoo and conditioner

What to Expect After a Female Hair Transplant

Compared to traditional “strip graft” hair transplant methods, after an FUE hair transplant, patients experience less discomfort and faster recovery times, as there is NO VISIBLE OR LINEAR SCAR. There is also no special maintenance required.

The tiny slits from deploying the hair follicles in the target area don’t require any stitches, and only tiny pin-prick scars are left behind.

Female Hair Transplant Recovery & Timeline

Days 2-3: Most mild pain and discomfort will subside, and normal activities may be resumed

Days 3-4: Swelling peaks

Two weeks: Hair growth will camouflage donor area

Exercise should be avoided for 4 weeks. The recipient hair growth occurs over 12 months allowing time for a natural and pleasing densification. There is no donor site linear scar and the punch marks are barely visible.

Best Procedures Paired with Female Hair Transplant

A female FUE transplant is often combined with a blepharoplasty and/or a facelift.

Non-surgical procedures that go well with a female FUE procedure include Botox injection and dermal soft tissue fillers and double chin reduction.

Female Hair Transplant FAQ

How Painful is it to Get a Female Hair Transplant?

The female hair transplant procedure shouldn’t hurt at all. Local anesthesia is used to numb the scalp area, which means you won’t be able to feel any pain while the procedure takes place.

The tiny 0.9mm donor site FUE punch defects are associated with only mild discomfort.

Are the Results of the Hair Transplant Permanent?

Because the hair follicles are extracted from the preferred sites at the back and side of your scalp, they are permanent and guaranteed to never fall out. Patients may require additional hair transplants when genetic hair on the top of your head thins.

Can a Hair Transplant Fix a High Forehead?

YES, an FUE hair transplant can help reduce the size of your forehead or lower the hairline by grafting hair from one area to the front. These donor areas are generally the back of the head, where hair tends to be impervious to pattern hair loss.

When Can I Wash My Hair After the Procedure?

Wait 48 hours before you wash your hair after hair transplant surgery. Be very gentle when washing your hair for the first 5 days. A gentle hair wash will not hurt the newly implanted follicles, but be mindful. Vigorous scrubbing could dislodge a graft, so we suggest washing as gently as possible.

If I want more Density, can I do another FUE Procedure and When?

Yes, several FUE hair procedures can be performed if required or desired. We must wait 1 year before grating into the same recipient side, but 3 months when grafting a whole new area.
